Metals: 

        Titanium:  A material commonly found in aerospace applications.  Very hard wearing, lustrous white and very strong.  The property of most interest is that titanium oxidizes when heated.  This layer is very hard, transparent and forms a strong bond to the underlying metal.  The coating produces interference colours similar to the coloured bands on a film of oil on water and can produce beautiful effects.  Titanium earrings are so light you won't know you are wearing them!

        Platinum: a blue white noble metal which is very expensive.  Platinum earrings can look stunning when combined with other metals such as gold and together with inset gems can be made into exquisite pieces of jewellery.  Platinum earrings have been both expensive and heavy in the past.  Using anticlastic techniques we can now fashion platinum earrings which are light, strong and because less metal is used, more affordable.

        Tantalum:  We are the only jewellers - as far as we know - who make tantalum earrings.  Hard wearing, inert, pure tantalum earrings are truly unique.  Fairly expensive and combined with gemstones, we produce some stunning items. This metal has a stunning dark grey, lustrous texture and can be polished to a mirror finish. This is a perfect foil for yellow, white or red gold. Its name is derived from the character Tantalus, father of Niobe in Greek mythology, who was punished after death by being condemned to stand knee-deep in water with perfect fruit growing above his head, both of which eternally tantalized him - if he bent to drink the water, it drained below the level he could reach, and if he reached for the fruit, the branches moved out of his grasp. This was considered similar to tantalum's almost completely inert nature.

        Palladium : A beautiful material, palladium is only available as a pure metal.  A very slight rose tint gives earrings a 'warm' look and a delight to work with.  Expensive.  Palladium earrings are yet another unique item from Elf Magic.

Our earrings can involve all the metals described in this site.  Platinum earrings which are combined with rose gold are beautiful and when produced using anticlastic techniques the earrings really look as if they have grown from seed.   If you can draw it or describe it, we can make it.

We have used all the following gems in our earrings and they can be fixed in a wide variety of standard or unusual settings:

Emeralds, Opals, Sapphires, Amethyst, Ruby, Peridot, Topaz, Mystic Topaz, Tourmaline, Iolite, Moonstone, Citrine, Alexandrite, and of course, diamonds both gem quality and black.
